Description

See the warning. Protect the cockpit.

A simple, portable visual indicator for carbon monoxide exposure.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas that can enter the cockpit through exhaust or combustion-related sources. This compact detector provides a simple visual indication of CO, making it particularly useful when flying with the cabin heater in use.

The centre indicator changes from orange to grey/black when carbon monoxide is detected and returns towards its normal colour after exposure to fresh air.

Key Features:

  • Visual indication of carbon monoxide exposure
  • Indicator changes from orange to grey/black when CO is present
  • Returns towards orange when exposed to fresh air
  • Adhesive backing for mounting to a panel or dashboard
  • Can also be carried on an ID badge or lanyard
  • Lightweight and portable
  • No batteries or power supply required
  • Space provided to record the date opened
  • Suitable for aircraft, vehicles and other fuel-powered equipment

How It Works:

The detector uses a chemically treated indicator that reacts to carbon monoxide in the surrounding air. When CO is present, the indicator darkens, providing a visible warning.

Once the detector is returned to clean, fresh air, the chemical reaction reverses and the indicator returns towards its original orange colour.

Please note: This is a visual detector only and does not produce an audible alarm, so it should be positioned where it can be checked regularly.

Typical Applications:

  • Aeroplanes
  • Cars
  • Fuel trucks
  • Tugs
  • Campers
  • Grounds and grass-cutting equipment
  • Other environments where combustion engines or fuel-burning equipment are used

Sensitivity:

  • 50 ppm: Clear reaction within approximately 30 minutes at 55% relative humidity
  • 100 ppm: Clear reaction within approximately 10–45 minutes depending on humidity
  • 200 ppm: Clear reaction within approximately 4–5 minutes
  • 300 ppm: Clear reaction within approximately 2–4 minutes
  • 400 ppm: Clear reaction within approximately 1–4 minutes

Reaction time can vary depending on the concentration of carbon monoxide and surrounding humidity.

Replacement:

The expiry date is printed on each package. Once opened, record the opening date on the detector and replace it according to the manufacturer's expiry guidance and operating conditions.

CAUTION: Detector will be damaged by the presence of halogens (iodine, chlorine, bromine), alcohol, ammoniac or nitrous gases. Do not use near diesel engines. Harsh direct sunlight will tend to bleach out indicator spot and shorten useful life
