OUR PLANES STORY
Introduced in 1971, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 helped define the modern era of air travel. With its distinctive tri-jet design and spacious wide-body cabin, the DC-10 offered long-range capability and comfort that revolutionized transcontinental and transpacific flights. For American Airlines, the DC-10 became a flagship of the fleet, delivering millions of passengers safely across the skies in unmistakable polished aluminum and red, white, and blue stripes.
Now, one of these legendary aircraft, DC-10-10, registration N125AA
Delivered new to American Airlines in 1973, N125AA served for decades on long-haul routes that connected travelers from Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, and Los Angeles International to destinations around the world. Its reliability, range, and comfort made it a cornerstone of American’s international network throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
In 1997, N125AA embarked on a new chapter when it was leased to Hawaiian Airlines, expanding the carrier’s wide-body fleet. The DC-10 gave Hawaiian the ability to expand its reach beyond the islands, flying passengers between Honolulu, the U.S. mainland, and Tokyo. Retired to Mojave in 2003, N125AA’s story came full circle, preserved today as PlaneTags for aviation fans and collectors everywhere. Read more about it on our blog: American Airlines DC-10: The Jet That Defined A Generation Of Air Travel.
Each American Airlines DC-10 PlaneTag is individually cut from the original skin of N125AA. PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
